Right at the beginning of this journey, I did mentioned that, the idea of building Gigi, beside the fact of been able to travel and see Australia from the real point of view, and not simply as a tourist passing by, was to been able to help other people…

Well, I’m very happy to say, that I have been able to help few travelling fellows for the past few weeks and it turned out to be a better than expected experience…

Back in September, I did meet in Mulgowie, Delwyn and Mykahla, travelling Australia by working their way around from place to place.. They are originally from NZ and they did have an interesting series of event, that led them to decide to try the nomad life in Australia. I always found it enjoyable and comfortable when I meet other people living the same life I do. It reminds me, that if there is a will, there is always a way..

They are two hard working girls and they never asked for anything, but I felt the need to do something nice for them anyway… One thing that I did notice the first time I met them was the broken outdoor light in their caravan.. I suggested if they did like the look to pick one from Bunning and that I would have installed for them…

Delwyn did get the light that unfortunately was 230 Volts, so it had to be converted to 12 Volts as per the rest of their caravan… We manage to get 5 metres of 12 Volts LED strip and while at it also replace the internal lights to LED.. We were all very pleased with the end result…

I had originally used blue LED for the awning light, but once we got the white LED strip, Mykahla, that does lots of reading outside, asked if we could change the outside light to white as well…

As I was working on the caravan I also realised that they had a tarp covering the corner because of a tiny small water leak… I still had plenty of Sikaflex left in the tube, and so up we went to fix that as well…

And this is where this story get really good… I had previously mentioned very vaguely in the middle of a conversation, that I was looking for a very small Christmas tree, for Gigi.. Immagine my surprise when one day they presented me with the perfect size Christmas tree and a nice strawberry and cream cake for saying Thank You for what I did…

I didn’t think they would have remember that part of the conversation, but they did and surprised me in a delightful way…

Then just few days ago, Delwyn manage to cook a very nice cake for me again.. It seems, they all want to help me to take care of my diet… 😂

Next to me are Paul and Alison. They have a very nice Cut Loose 5th wheeler and I was just helping them with their new Solar system, when out of the blue, Paul gave me a 40 litre Engel fridge, because, according to Paul, “every respectable motorhome MUST HAVE a beer fridge”, and I didn’t have one… I for once, was speechless!

It seems that when you live on the road, you appreciate and give value to things differently..

But the moral of this story is not about cakes or lights or solar, but it is about of how good it feels to help each other… Nobody here ever ask for anything, and yet the comradery between “real nomads” is as strong as ever.. We are a minority group and possibly a dying breed.. I’m just happy to be part of it and to be here for the ride!

Finally I did find a little poem that I would like to read…

A Home That Rides On Wheels

You may not know how good it feels, to have a home that rides on wheels.   To watch the sun as it meet the sea, to know there is no place you have to be.   To listen to the winter-time rain, to swim in the pool you don’t have to maintain.   To sit and watch the green grass grow, to know you never have to mow.   And if the washing machine breaks down, you know there is another one around.   And if the neighbour complain all day, hook up the rig and pull away.   You know that just around the bend, you will meet another long-time friend.   And that’s how good it feels, to have a home that rides on wheels..

And a nice country song…

Merry Christmas everyone…
