I got a chance to spend a weekend at the Chinchilla Weir, with my friend Charlie, and while looking around, we came across this tree surrounded by many teddy bears and little cuddly toys.. At the time we had no idea of why, as no one around knew what it was all about it, but it was obvious that something terrible had happened there..
Upon returning to base, it didn’t take long to find out on Internet about Kaydence and her terrible story.. I have no idea of what can possibly go through people’s mind, if anything at all, to commit such a crime, but I know for sure, that makes me feel really sad, every time I learn about such stories…
I would like to dedicate this post to little Kaydence…
Everyone that know me, knows that fishing it is not one of my preferred hobbies, (I find it hard to call it a sport, as I never had to pull out of the water a 20kg fish, and even then…), as I simply don’t like to sit or stand waiting for something to happen. Charlie on the other hand, loves it, and so it happens that when the opportunity did arose, we decided to give it a go at the Chinchilla Weir…
As we passed through town, and stop for groceries at Wollie, we also did checked out the water park, that for obvious reasons, does have a watermelon theme. Nearby there is also a climbing wall/block and they both do attract the youngest ones in town.. Overall I would say the council did an excellent job…
They also did an exceptional job in providing a nice and clean camp site, that does work on donations, with the Chinchilla Weir. You have powered sites for about 10 caravan, toilets, fire pit, undercover BBQs, boat ramp, a nice playground and plenty of space for everyone..
Hopefully, people will continue to do the right thing and spend money in town if not giving a donation.. As I don’t need/use any of the facilities when going around, I always make a point of doing my shopping and try what ever the local business is providing, instead of making a donation.. I think that, either way, it does help..
I just wish that more councils in Australia had this kind of attitude and real understanding of how to keep the economy running in a small rural town! I know personally one of the councillor, Kaye Maguire, and I can tell you, that she is a hard working person that do genuinely and honestly care for her town..
I would like to also mention the Thai restaurant where we had some unbelievably delicious Salt & Pepper Squid. Five stars to the Chef!
Once we got there, we managed to park, Gigi on a nice flat spot where I could take full advantage of my solar panel. The best part was also that we had plenty of room around us and still only few metres away from the water.. We also managed to meet a very pleasant couple of grey nomad going around on an old Scania, that was setup as an enjoyable home for travelling around Australia..
I’m always extremely impress when I see older people still living the dream.. They invited me to have a tour of their vehicle, while Charlie was obviously more interested in the mechanical side of the vehicle… It was very impressive, simple but to the point and far more importantly, it does everything they need…
We had overall a very enjoyable stay, as the place is very delightful, with plenty of shade and something for everybody, including fishing, swimming, water skiing, bird watching and bush walking..
While Charlie was busy all day fishing, I managed to cook, (sorry Charlie, burn), a couple of pizza for the evening, as the fishes caught, were nowhere near the 10kg expectations of Charlie fishing’s line rating…
Still, we had lots of fun and I definitely recommend this beautiful spot, and please don’t forget, if you ever get there, to bring a little cuddly toy for Kaydence…
That’s perhaps what it makes this place so special. A beautiful park, for a beautiful girl…
Finally, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone that get to read this…
