Having some spare time due to the “too humid to work under the sun” I wanted to review the Dometic 320 toilet that has been installed in Gigi’s bathroom for the past 10 months. I actually did purchase this toilet back in 2017 from the US because, not sure about now but at the time it was not for sale in AUS. Actually I just checked on the AU Dometic website and while they got a great article about toilets, they still don’t sell this model in Australia, so for more info you need to go HERE.

Anyhow, I wanted the 320 because for a 50 cm high seat there were not many options at the time. So in a nutshell the Dometic 320 is as good, actually better, than a standard home toilet. Most standard toilet are both very low and very small while the 320 is tall and extremely large where it counts… The elongated deep ceramic bowl is what it sets this toilet apart from the rest, in my opinion, and to keep the weight down is bolted/glued to a sturdy ABS plastic bottom part where also the pedal is mounted.

Another great feature of this toilet is the fact that you can actually choose how much water to use on each flush based on your needs. The water does come out from tiny holes all the way around the rim making the cleaning of the ceramic bowl a very easy task and you also have a choice of two colours: white and bone..

You can buy this toilet with the optional hand sprayer, but as previously mentioned in the blog, the use of a standard toilet brush in a better option for more than one reason, as you do use much less water and it keeps the rubber seal perfectly clean preventing it from an early failure. Once the rubber seal does fail, you will know because the smell from the holding tank will now be able to get into the bathroom.. The hand sprayer does not clean the rubber as well as a nice round brush.

If the water valve had to fail (eventually everything does), it is a simple matter of unplugging the water pipe from your RV and by pushing on the two plastic tab, releasing the valve from the pedal, without the need of removing the toilet. Another great advantage this toilet has over the competition, say a Thetford Aqua Magic Style plus, is that to replace the seal, once again, you don’t need to remove the toilet. That to me is gold!

If you are thinking of replacing your existing toilet and have doubts about how hard the job could be, don’t as most of these toiled do use the same floor flange. All it takes is two bolts and a bit of bathroom silicon to complete the job. Virtually the same setup as standard home toilets. If you currently have a toilet with a macerator then this particular model is possibly not for you as it required a straight down pipe to the holding tank.

After nearly a year of daily usage and no problems what so ever, I can honestly say that this has been the most comfortable toilet I had the pleasure to use away from home. And now that Gigi it is my home, I’m glad to have this toilet and I can only highly recommend it. Also the two spare parts need it for this toilet are readily available either online or in most camping shops.

Flash Ball Seal: Part N. 385310677 available for as little as $14.00 UDS (pack of two), on Amazon

Water Valve: Part N. 385311641 available for as little as $28.00 AUD (pack of two), on Ebay

The Dometic 320 series (like most RV/Marine toilets) are expensive, but not that much if compare to a comfortable luxury home toilet. If I had to pick the best reason/s to buy this toilet, it would have to be n.1 the comfort and n.2 the easy maintenance.. It seems that at least, as far as toilet goes, Dometic got this one right..
