While I’m still waiting for the gearbox to turn up from the US  😡 , I decided to go ahead and purchase few more bits while we are waiting for the last part of stage 1 to be completed. The toilet was the first item to arrive followed by a new Webasto Evo 55 24V Diesel Heater, plus some other items for the kitchen and the bathroom…

The Webasto Evo 55 unit

I will write a review once I get the unit install and the reason for going in this direction as far as heating options…

If you have been following the blog, you should be aware that few weeks back Phil decided to re-join the family and did purchase a great looking Scania Hi-deck. The reason I’m saying to re-join is because Phil had previously purchased another bus, but is it turned out it was just to small for his project, and more importantly it wasn’t a Hi-deck, so it had one feature missing that was very important to Phil.

I’m actually very happy about this new purchase and I’m looking forward to see how this two different setup vehicles will fulfil our different needs. I have my good reasons for not wanting a Hi-deck in the first place, but on the other hand, Phil has very good reasons for wanting a Hi-deck. Either way, is gonna be good to follow both progress and problems encounter along the way…

The two vehicle have a completely different setup and layout. Once Phil has complete the drawing of his layout, we can then put the two together and see the actual differences. One good think that has already come up from all this was the fact the for some unknown reason we both believed that we could exceed the 12.5 metre total length if it was just for something hanging out of the original frame. Upon further inspection of the NHVR -vsg5 where it clearly state that

Size and dimensions
There are strict limits on the maximum dimension of a heavy vehicle. In particular motorhomes must not exceed the regulation dimensions, including:
maximum length: 12.5 metres
• width: 2.5 metres
• height: 4.3 metres
rear overhang: 3.7 metres or 60% of the wheel base, whichever is lesser and including items or equipment

The two item in red is what did created the confusion as in our mind the 60% of the wheelbase taken from the last axle did allow us to past the rear of the vehicle by 1 metre…  A silly mistake to be honest, as we all know what the word Maximum does mean…  😀

My point is that two heads can work better than one and in this case it saved us from a very expensive mistake. In my case I had to completely re-design the interior as now, the motorcycle sit inside the Motorhome, not attached at the back as originally intended…

In Phil’s motorhome, it will go under in one of the bins (one of the reason for wanting the Hi-deck), as apparently they are high enough for the motorcycle…
